About Cristina

As a seasoned yoga therapy specialist with over two decades of practice under my belt, I am continually amazed at the transformative power of yoga and its capacity to heal both body and mind. My passion for this work is anchored in the multifaceted and holistic nature of yoga therapy, which I believe makes it a profoundly effective tool for promoting wellness.

Yoga therapy goes beyond simple exercise, diving deep into the nexus of physical, mental, and spiritual health. The practice involves a heightened sense of body-mind awareness, a skill that can provide profound insights into our health. This awareness allows us to identify physical discomforts, emotional distress, and cognitive patterns that may be impacting our wellbeing.

The role of mindfulness and meditation in yoga therapy can’t be overstated. Both practices cultivate a sense of presence and self-awareness, enhancing our capacity to recognize and regulate our thoughts, emotions, and physiological responses. This increased internal awareness can help us to identify early signs of stress, anxiety, or physical discomfort, allowing for timely interventions and preventive care.

The myriad yoga practices and tools at our disposal, from asana (postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises) to dhyana (meditation) and mantra (chanting), provide a comprehensive toolkit for healing. Each one offers its unique benefits and together, they form a holistic approach to health and wellbeing that addresses every aspect of the individual.

Spirituality, often interwoven with yoga therapy, adds another layer of depth to the practice. Regardless of personal beliefs or religious affiliations, the spiritual aspect of yoga therapy often manifests as a sense of connectedness – to oneself, to others, and to the world around us. This sense of connection can be deeply healing and is a powerful antidote to the isolation and disconnection many people experience in today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world.

One of the most rewarding aspects of being a yoga therapist is the opportunity to establish a therapeutic presence. Being fully present with clients, showing empathy, and bearing witness to their experiences can have a profound effect on the therapeutic process.

A key focus of my work lies in nervous system regulation. Through yoga practices, we can stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, our body’s rest and digest function, helping to alleviate stress, promote relaxation, and improve physical health.

After more than 20 years in practice, my passion for yoga therapy remains unwavering. It’s in the quiet moments of a meditation practice, the strength found in a challenging asana, the emotional release facilitated through pranayama, and the healing found in deep connection. Being a yoga therapist is not just my profession – it’s my calling, my passion, and my privilege. I am committed to this path and to supporting others on their journeys toward greater health, awareness, and peace.
